What Mantu does at TradeProfy
Mantu Kumar started TradeProfy so that Indian traders could see the full cost of a trade before placing it, not after the contract note arrives. He designs and codes every calculator, writes the guides, and is responsible for each rate and number the site shows. All seven calculators, the eleven guides and the policy pages are written or reviewed by him.
He also builds other free browser-based tools under Universal Hospitality, and the same rules apply here: no sign-up, nothing you type is uploaded, and every result is explained.
How he keeps the rates correct
- Primary sources first. STT rates come from the Finance Act; exchange transaction charges from NSE, BSE and MCX circulars; the SEBI fee from SEBI’s schedule; stamp duty from the Indian Stamp Act as amended in 2020.
- Broker rate cards. Brokerage, DP charges and AMC for Zerodha, Groww, Upstox and Angel One are taken from each broker’s published pricing page.
- Worked examples. Every guide example is calculated by hand and matched with the calculator. For example, 100 shares bought at ₹500 and sold at ₹520 for delivery at Zerodha must show ₹128.66 of charges.
- Dated reviews. Rates are reviewed after each Union Budget and whenever an exchange circular changes them. The October 2026 review added the higher F&O STT from 1 April 2026, NSE’s March 2026 charges and the January 2026 lot sizes.
What he does not claim
Mantu is not a SEBI-registered investment adviser, research analyst, chartered accountant or stockbroker, and TradeProfy does not present him as one. TradeProfy explains costs and arithmetic; it does not recommend any security or strategy. For tax questions, speak to a chartered accountant; for investment advice, a SEBI-registered adviser.
Topics he writes about
- Brokerage, STT, GST, stamp duty and DP charges
- Futures and options costs, lot sizes and margin
- MCX commodity charges
- Broker cost comparisons
- Position sizing, risk-reward and compounding maths
